Tourist robbed at knifepoint in Bagan while painting

A 30-year-old tourist from Taiwan was robbed at knifepoint and injured while painting a scene of one of Bagan’s many pagodas.

Four suspects were involved in the alleged July 26 attack, police say.

According to the 7Day report, two women and two men assaulted the tourist and took her camera, about $80 in cash and her passport.

Contacted by phone, police in Nyaung Oo referred us to authorites in Bagan. A senior police official in Bagan confirmed the report and told us over the phone that the victim was injured in the attack but not seriously.

They are looking for the suspects.

This would be the second reported robbery in Bagan since February, when a Swedish national trying to catch the sunset was interrupted by individuals who forcefully took his camera and money.

Police say there were no robberies in Bagan in 2015, which seems highly unlikely.
