Tornado destroys dozens of homes in Bago

More than 120 homes were levelled in Bago division on Saturday after a tornado swept through the area, some 50 miles north of Yangon.

The total damage from the storm, which also felled dozens of trees and street lamps, was estimated at about K200,000 (nearly $200).

There were no reported injuries or deaths, according to The Voice Weekly.

Some of those made homeless by the storm have been staying in local monasteries and schools, U Maung Shein, a local administrator was quoted as saying.
