Tin Tin launches with packed crowd and free flowing booze

If you weren’t at the opening of Tin Tin last night, you probably don’t have a hangover right now.

Well good for you!

The launch of the new Mexican street food restaurant and tequila bar on Bogalazay was marked by a deluge of Tuborg beer, shots, margaritas, and even a round of champagne. The crowd spilled out onto the street.

The quality of the food was harder to discern as little plates of appetizers were snapped up before they ever made their way to the outer margins of the crowd.

So we went back today and went to town.

The meal started with a big bowl of nachos ($7), which had the right blend of crispiness and melted cheese, topped with diced tomatoes.

Afterwards, there was the “taco chili” filled with chorizo, chicken and topped with sour cream and sliced lettuce. A request for condiments was met with the delivery of three separate sauces that covered the gamut of tangy to spicy.

All in all, a great – if slightly luxurious – lunch, washed down with a coke. With the conversion rate, the total came to K20,000.  That hurt.

Tin Tin’s opening will raise the profile of Bogalazay Street, as seen by the post-launch crowd up the block at Cousin’s last night, where many repaired to eat a heartier meal and drink more.
