Three people robbed on same Sanchaung street in one month

Three people have been robbed on the same street in Yangon’s Sanchaung Township in the past month, according to police.

At least one of the victims, a woman, was held up at knife-point as her cell phone, a gold chain and $400 cash were stolen.

Local authorities are promising to install CCTV in the hopes of catching the thief and deterring further offences.

The first victim, named as Daw Khaing, said her attacker approached at around 5:45pm on May 27 as she walked from Khattar Street to the Royal Khattar Hotel. Threatening her with a knife, he took her belongings before fleeing.

Two days later, another robbery was reported on the same street at around 1am, according to the Global New Light of Myanmar. Then, on June 21, the third theft took place.

“Now, we will install CCTV on the street,” ward administrator Zaw Myin Lwin was quoted as saying.
