Three arrested, accused of snatching cash from man in downtown Yangon

Police have arrested three people accused of snatching cash from a man on the street in downtown Yangon on Sunday evening (Valentine’s Day!).

The victim, identified as Thein Htike Oo, had just come out of the Hindu temple on Kon Zay Tann and Anawratha streets in Pabedan Township when the theft occurred, the Voice Weekly reported.

“While he was counting the money, they [the suspects] surrounded him in order not to be seen by other people, then they ran away. People nearby caught them when he shouted for help,” police officer Htun Naing was quoted as saying.

And what was the amount taken in this bold theft?

90,000 kyats, or about $72. That’s a picture of it above, courtesy of the Yangon Police Department.
