Heartbreak turned into disbelieving tears of joy when Ki Ki the dog was reunited with his Yangon family this week – after someone found him sitting right next to his “missing” poster.
Days after Ki Ki vanished in North Dagon Township, Myat Mon Mon Maung was out house-searching on Wednesday when she saw a missing dog poster on a pole. When she looked down, there was the same dog, just sitting there.
So she dialed up the number on the poster, at which point the canine tried to run away, ultimately hiding under the fence of a nearby building. The owners, who had rushed to the scene after getting the call, called his name: “Ki Ki!”
The dog bounded out of hiding and sprinted straight into their arms.
“I am so happy to see him back,” Yu Yu, who care for Ki Ki along with her son, told Coconuts when reached for comment afterward. “I couldn’t even eat any meals those three days.”
Footage of the encounter shows Yu Yu and her grown son sobbing as Ki Ki bounces happily in their arms.
“I am so happy to see them reunited. The aunty and her son were crying with joy,” a delighted Myat Mon Mon Maung, herself a dog lover, wrote of the experience.
Yu Yu said Ki Ki got scared by fireworks and ran away at 8:30pm on Monday night. They even went to see astrologer for clues to Ki Ki’s fate on Wednesday when they got the call.
The happy ending was widely shared online, where many shared in the good feels.
“I shed my own tears watching this,” Facebooker Pearl Khin wrote in reply.
“It’s so lovely to see this,” said another user, as others praised Ki Ki as a “clever boy.”
After being reunited, Ki Ki went home in his usual place, on his owner’s bike.
