A month after Twilight Over Burma was banned from screening in Myanmar, the film has been quietly pulled from a festival over the border in Thailand.
The movie, which follows the romance between an Austrian woman and a Shan prince, was dropped from the lineup at the Thailand International Film Destinations festival, the Nation reported.
Organizers have not issued a statement but censors in Myanmar said in June that the film damaged the reputation of the country’s army and threatened national unity.
Twilight Over Burma is based on the true tale of Inge Eberhard (now Sargent) whose husband Sao Kya Seng, from the Shan ethnic minority, was arrested and killed following the military coup of 1962.
The film was shot mostly in Shan state and Thailand’s Chiang Mai province.
