Suu Kyi hosts party for local celebrity supporters

Aung San Suu Kyi held a star-studded gathering at her Inya Lake home this morning to thank local celebrities for supporting the opposition in Sunday’s elections, footage posted to her party’s Facebook page shows.

The National League for Democracy is set for a landslide win, though official results are still trickling in.

During the campaign period, many Myanmar movie stars, rappers and singers were prominent opposition supporters, posting pictures wearing the trademark red.

“Thanks everyone for coming here,” the opposition leader told the crowd on Thursday morning. “Participating in the election campaign is not just about the election but for changing the politics of the country.”

According to Eleven Media, she also expressed her gratitude towards trishaw drivers, some of Yangon’s most visible NLD supporters during the campaign, many of who decked out their vehicles in opposition flags.

Sadly, they weren’t visible among the crowd at this morning’s party.
