Suu Kyi govt seeks songwriters to pen tributes to democratic reform

Aung San Suu Kyi’s new government needs you. Nope, not foreign experts or policy advisors or NGO types of any sort. Musicians.

That’s right: Minister for Information Pe Myint has said he wants lyricists to write tunes about the country’s transition to democracy.

The new administration took power in April after decades of military and military-backed rule.

The minister reportedly put out the call while meeting songwriters at the Myanmar Radio and Television center in Yangon on Saturday.

According to the Global New Light of Myanmar, he asked the group to write lyrics about the process of democratic reform that has been underway in the country since the military junta surrendered power to a semi-civilian government in 2012.

“I find television a powerful platform for mass media in public relations,” he was quoted as saying.

They have promised to provide “coordination and cooperation,” according to New Light.
