The nationwide results for this past year’s matriculation exams were released over the weekend, and while it was cause for celebration for several students and families, it was also a tragic day for at least one family.
As 7Day reports, a 17-year-old girl was found dead on Saturday morning in the home that she shared with her aunt and uncle. The family lived in a village located in the Ayewarday Region’s Myanaung Township. Her family believes that she took her own life shortly after the exam results were released and she found out that she hadn’t passed. The girl reportedly used a power cable to hang herself from a wooden beam in a room on the second floor of their home.
An officer told 7Day that the girl’s aunt was babysitting a child downstairs at the time.
The girl’s body has been transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities are currently examining it to rule out foul play.
