A resident of Shwepyithar township got quite a shock when a stray dog that frequented his neighborhood showed up with a child’s head and thumb in her mouth.
“She [the dog] settled near my house when she was about to give birth. She was probably hungry after just giving birth and carried it [the remains] because she thought it was food. When my neighbor shouted at me to come out, the dog left the parts beside my house and ran away,” the resident, Pyone Cho, told 7Day.
After a preliminary examination, it is believed that the child is male and between six months and one year old. Authorities think that the dog carried the remains from near the train tracks, and are attempting to track down the rest of the body.
“We’re asking people who have reported missing children. As of now, we don’t know [the identity of the child],” said the ward’s administrator Aung San Lwin.
The Hlawga Police Station has opened a case and is conducting an investigation.
Earlier this year, a child’s headless body was discovered in Dawbon Township but police have yet to arrest any suspects. It is unclear if the two cases are connected.
