South Korean company sells tickets for K-Pop show – then does a runner

Myanmar-based Koreans stepped in to help stage a high-profile K-Pop show in Yangon on Tuesday after a South Korean events management company disappeared – after taking the money from ticket sales.

Hanbaek, who have held events in Yangon in the past, allegedly sold tickets for the concert but then neglected to organise or pay performers, forcing the Myanmar-based Korean Association to take responsibility, according to a report in 7Days Daily.

Live in Yangon, held at the Myanmar Events Park to celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Myanmar, featured wildly popular boyband Bangtan Boys, or BTS.

Ei Jong Guu, the chairman of the Myanmar-based Korean Association, was quoted as saying at a press conference on Tuesday: “As a Korean, I am very ashamed. We don’t like seeing Myanmar fans disappointed as they like K-Pop so much. That’s why Myanmar-based Koreans collaborated to organise this show.”
