Six more street-crossing bridges planned for Yangon

More transportation news, though this update is a little pedestrian (pun intended…).

The Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) is planning to build six street-crossing bridges in the 2015-2016 fiscal year, Eleven Media Group reported.

If successful, the project should eliminate the need to scurry from sidewalk to sidewalk as cars bear down with seemingly scant regard for human life.

What’s more, depending on funding, escalators are being planned for the bridges, the better to ascend above traffic in style.

A dozen or so street-crossing bridges already exist in the city – some, it should be said, have escalators, according to Eleven. The article says that the new bridges are slated for Pyay Road (which will get three), Kaba Aye Pagoda Road, downtown close to Sule Pagoda and one on the corner of Landmadaw and Anawathra.
