Six injured in YBS bus crash in Mingaladon

Six people were injured in a collision involving two Yangon Bus Service vehicles in Mingaladon Township on Tuesday.

One No. 36 bus was dropping off passengers at a bus stop when it was rammed from behind by another bus No. 36 bus.

“A bus heading from Mingaladon to Sule was hit from behind by another vehicle from the same bus line at a bus stop. Two people from the rammed car were injured, along with four from the other vehicle,” a firefighter told Eleven.

The firefighter also said one of the buses had its YBS logo removed, though it was not clear whether this happened before or after the accident.

One victim broke her leg and was sent to the general hospital in South Okkalapa Township. The others were sent to nearby clinics.

Police are now investigating the case and plan to charge those who were responsible for the crash.

The new bus system has been plagued by complaints since it was launched earlier this month. Most of the complaints have been about late buses and unclear routes, and regional authorities have been working to smooth out all the kinks.

Let’s hope that this is the last time people are hurt by the new and slowly improving public service.
