SEA Games 2015: Myanmar bests Singapore on host’s home turf

The headlines say it all:

“Hosts Singapore undone by efficient Myanmar,” read one in a news site for the 28th Southeast Asia Games.

“Toothless Young Lions fall 2-1 to Myanmar,” went another in Singapore’s Today.

In other words, Myanmar’s football squad got off to a blazing start on Thursday night by beating hometown favorite Singapore at the Jalan Besar stadium.

Thousands of fans showed up for the match and waved flags cheering on the team. In Yangon, supporters packed out tea shops and bars.

Myanmar faces the Philippines this coming Sunday.
