Schoolteacher and daughter accused of murdering Yangon woman over debts

A schoolteacher and her adopted daughter have been charged with the murder of a woman found dead in her bathroom in Yangon’s Thingangyun Township on Monday.

Neighbors said they heard 53-year-old Khin Mya Win cry “Don’t do it, teacher!” in the hours before her slashed body was found by her son, Kyaw Ye Naing.

He told the police his mother knew a teacher named Aye Aye Maw. She was later arrested, alongside her daughter Chit Put, who police found with fresh cuts on her hands, according to the Global New Light of Myanmar.

According to police, the pair admitted they went to the victim’s house, together with a  third woman named Kyaw Kyaw, seeking payment of debts worth K3,000,000.

Aye Aye Maw allegedly dragged Khin Mya Win into the bathroom before slicing her through the face and neck. The mother and daughter then, according to police, suffocated her with a pillow
