The family of slain British teacher Gary Ferguson has begun raising funds to offer as a reward for information about Harris Binotti, who is wanted by police in connection to Ferguson’s death.
“The suspect Harris Binotti is still on the run enjoying his freedom while we sit at home anxious to see his capture,” reads the description of the crowdfunding campaign on the Dutch website Dream or Donate.
“Lets share this and help catch this suspect murderer. Binotti could be in Scotland (Dumfries or Aberdeen). Possibly in Thailand, Cambodia or Vietnam. Contact your local police or Interpol. If the suspect is caught without the help of the reward, all funds will be put in a separate fund for Gary’s son Jeremy,” the description continues.
The campaign is registered under the name E. Ferguson and refers to Gary as a “brother and son”.
The campaign had received 21 donations by the time of writing and had raised €1,145 out of a €5,000 goal.
“So sorry to here about Gary. I hope they catch him soon. Gary was a great guy. I didn’t see him much since we met back in 2004 in Thailand, but I always remember having some good laughs with him. Rest easy old friend,” wrote one donor on the campaign page.
“Hope they catch him soon,” wrote another donor.
In the days after Ferguson was found dead in Binotti’s apartment in downtown Yangon on November 6, Myanmar police said Binotti had fled to Thailand on a Myanmar Airways International flight. However, Thai police said Binotti has not entered Thailand since mid-October.
Myanmar police also said they were cooperating with Interpol to apprehend the suspect, though Binotti’s name is not included in Interpol’s public database of wanted persons.
Deputy national police spokesman Colonel Krissana Pattanacharoen said: “Binotti left Thailand in mid-October. We have no record of him re-entering Thailand after that incident.”
“If we receive a request from Myanmar police we will happily assist,” he added.
Martin Ferguson, the brother of the victim, has said Myanmar police and British authorities are not doing enough to catch the suspect.
“Show some love for Gary. All that matters is that justice is done,” concludes the description of the fundraising campaign, which can be found here.
