Pro-government supporters plan to give Myanmar President Thein Sein a gold-plated map for his services

President Thein Sein’s party may have lost the election in November, but that’s okay, because he’s going to get a cool map.

A gold-plated map.

Pro-government youth supporters plan to present him with this unusual bling at his residence in Naypyitaw on March 20, the Voice Weekly reported.

Okkar Shwe Win, an organizer and final year student at dental college in Mandalay, told the Voice that he and hundreds of other young people will take part in the event, which has apparently been approved by the president’s office.

He said this was more or less a grassroots effort.

“No one forced us to do this. We are not representing any party or organizations. I already had this idea,” he said. “The president has done as much as he could. We have to appreciate this. We are doing this as there shall be a tradition for future presidents.”

“We plan to present him with a Myanmar map made of gold and we are still thinking what should we add. We are planning to sell t-shirts with the president’s picture for those who will join the praise ceremony.”

In one of his more descriptive statements, Okkar Shwe Win told Pyi Myanmar Journal that Thein Sein taught Myanmar’s “democracy baby” how to walk.

“So we appreciate him and respect him, that’s why we are going to praise him.”

Thein Sein’s term officially ends on March 31st.
