President Thein Sein’s trip to Mongolia was front page news in state media today, but the photos accompanying it could hardly compare with the blow by blow coverage on Minister of Information Ye Htut’s Facebook page, which includes a shot of Myanmar’s senior leader on horseback in the Mongolian countryside.
Thein Sein is rarely seen out of traditional Burmese dress, but in this image, he’s decked out in a suit and riding side by side with Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj. Both men are trailed by a phalanx of bodyguards who, sadly, don’t get their own horsies.
Mongolia is, of course, famous for its equestrian culture, which makes its way into the halls of government, as another photo from the trip of horses lining a state building shows.

According to the Democratic Voice of Burma, the trip, which started on Monday, is the first time a president of Myanmar has visited Mongolia since the two countries established relations in 1956. But other than that and the horses it’s a slightly standard affair, with the usual signing of agreements on mining and tourism and agriculture.
