Myanmar’s new president Htin Kyaw is scheduled to travel to Russia in the coming days for his second official state visit abroad.
He is going to Sochi (where the Winter Olympics were recently held) from May 19-20 for the 20-year anniversary of the ASEAN-Russian relationship, which we didn’t even know was a thing until today.
Aung San Suu Kyi put forward Htin Kyaw for the president’s position since she is constitutionally barred from it, and he was sworn in at the end of March.
As foreign minister, a job she hold along with being the “state counsellor,” she traveled with him on his first visit to Laos this month.
It’s unclear if she is going this time.
