Police seek three men for Yangon family slaying

Yangon police are seeking three men in connection with the murder of a retired policeman, his wife and two children in Yangon’s Mingaladon Township, the Irrawaddy reports.

The suspects are thought to have been known to the family, given that a photo distributed by police showing the men leaning on a fence is thought to have been taken by the slain woman.

The image, reportedly posted by a local official, went viral on Facebook on Monday, when hundreds turned up for the funeral of the family.

The victims were identified as 37-year-old retired police officer Soe Naung, his wife Ma Cherry Pwint, and their two sons Han Thura, 13 and 8-year-old Swan Htet Myat.

Col Myo Swe from the Yangon Division police information unit reportedly confirmed to the Irrawaddy the authenticity of the picture and that the three men are wanted for questioning.

Forces across the country have been told to look out for them.

“We have the photo from the slain family’s house and we are investigating it,” Col Win Bo, the head of Chin State Police Force told The Irrawaddy.
