Police detain fourth suspect in relation to Capital Hypermarket explosions

The Yangon Regional Police Force have detained another suspect in connection with the explosions that went off at Capital Hypermarket last month.

The accused, Kyaw Thu — also known as Kyaw Gyi — lives in Mingala Taungnyunt township and is the fourth individual to be arrested in relation to the Capital explosions. Three other suspects were previously detained last month.

“He was taken in and is being investigated. He’s the one who drove the other suspects who were involved in the Capital explosions. The CCTV footage shows him holding a bag. He was the driver,” Mingala Taungnyunt ward administrator Ye Naung Thein told 7Day Daily.

In addition to the Capital incident, there were several other small explosions at a government office and another shopping center last month.

In all three cases, the explosions were caused by homemade explosives, specifically M-150 energy drink containers filled with chemicals.
