Police arrest 19-year-old roommate of murdered Rohingya Muslim spiritual leader

The 19-year-old roommate of a Rohingya Muslim spiritual leader whose body was found in a plastic bag yesterday morning has been charged with his murder.

The suspect, Win Kyaw, also known as Aung Than, was detained on Friday, a police officer with knowledge of the case told Coconuts Yangon.

They claim that the teenager confessed to killing 36-year-old Abdul Shakhur, also known as Zaw Zaw, after the pair had an argument and then dumping his body, found with slash marks on his back, face and neck, in Thuwanna Township.

The pair had shared an apartment in Mingalar Taung Nyunt Township for six months, according to friends and neighbors.
