Plumbers drown in freak accident while fixing condo water pipes

A tragic accident took place on Friday afternoon at the Naing Tun Lin condo in Mandalay’s Aungmyethazan Township that resulted in the deaths of two plumbers, 7Day reports.

The two men, aged 25 and 26, were fixing the pipes of a water tank located under the condo. The tank measured 100 feet in length, and 15 feet in both width and depth.

The tank was full while the work was being done. Initially, only one one of the men went underwater while the other waited by the tank. However, when his colleague didn’t resurface after a considerable amount of time, the second man also went inside the tank to check what was going on. Police and fire personnel eventually rescued both men from the tank, but it was unfortunately too late.

“They ran out of oxygen while they were working in the water. They died on the way to the hospital,” an officer told 7Day.

It’s unclear whether the accident was a result of equipment malfunction.
