At parliament, a new restaurant brings NLD and military MPs to the same table

It’s all change in parliament this month. No, not the massive influx of NLD MPs.

We’re talking about the dining options.

Previously, lawmakers could huddle over coffee and simple meals at the cafeteria or canteen. Now there’s a big restaurant, serving meat, rice, salads and drinks.

Keystone, part of a chain of eateries of the same name in Naypyitaw owned by the people who run ‘Shwe Palin’ teahouse in Yangon, opened on January 22, just before the new parliament convened on February 1.

Parliament has got a few upgrades recently (aside from the batch of new lawmakers). A gift and photo shop opened a few months back.

Keystone isn’t a real money-maker yet, though, according to manager Phyu Phyu Aung, who told Coconuts Yangon it could only open when parliament was in session.

“But I’m glad to serve MPs and great people,” she added. “I’m happy to see that military MPs and NLD MPs are queuing in the same line to order food.”

Maybe they can sort out their differences after all. Over a bowl of mohinga, perhaps.
