Panhandlers in Mandalay sentenced to two weeks in jail

A judge in Mandalay sentenced nine panhandlers to 15 days in jail on Wednesday for disturbing the public, Eleven is reporting.

What exact law they were breaking was not clear.

Mandalay has struggled with homelessness, and how effective programs created to combat the problem remains an open question.

Earlier this month an organization put out a call to help raise funds for a group that find jobs for panhandlers at the Mandalay train station.
