One man has died and another is injured after they jumped from the balcony of the Mya Mandalar in Mandalay at around 7pm on January 21, Eleven reported.
Hpone Kyauk Shin and Aike Shun jumped from first floor of their hotel room when they heard banging on their door. They were then sent to the emergency ward at the Mandalay General Hospital, where Hpone Kyauk Shin succumbed to his wounds on January 22. Aike Shun remains in hospital.
According to the chief of the No. 3 Police Station in Mandalay, police reportedly found narcotics drugs in their hotel room, leading them to believe the two jumped from their balcony to avoid arrest. Both of them carried national registration cards saying they were ethnically Chinese.
Police also said Hpone Kyauk Shin was a member of the Tah Moe Hnye militia.
Police seized eight yaba tablets, Myanmar and Chinese currency, a registration card issued by the Tah Moe Hnye militia and two pieces of jade after searching the hotel room.
Police have reportedly filed charges against both men under sections 15, 16(c) and 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
