In an effort to prevent “drunken brawls and crimes,” authorities in Yangon have ordered 24-hour mini marts to cease selling alcohol after 10pm.

Bummer.

Deputy Police Commander U Win Kyi from the Yangon Western District Police Office told Myanmar Business Today that local police will assist ward and township administrators in carrying out surprise inspections at stores to make sure they are in compliance.

“The authorities prohibited the convenience stores from selling alcohol and beer after 10pm to prevent drunken brawls and crimes,” he told the publication. “We will take action against shops according to [alcohol] licence regulations.”

According to the report, shops are already putting up signs telling customers to go elsewhere after 10pm.
