The National League for Democracy, the current leading party of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, has announced their list of candidates for the upcoming bi-elections. The elections are scheduled to be held on 1 April, 2017.
U Nyan Win, who serves on the NLD’s Central Executive Committee, told 7Day that they had more time to pick candidates for the bi-elections than they did last year’s general election.
“We carefully selected our candidates. They were chosen by all the party’s members,” he ex;lained.
Although the NLD announced the names of 18 candidates — 16 men and two women — there will actually be 19 vacant parliamentary seats up for grabs in the bi-elections.
Parties have from November 28 to December 7 to submit their candidates to the Union Election Commission.
