New K500 lottery tickets will come with bigger jackpot and more security measures

If you’re not a regular on the Myanmar lottery scene, the latest development is that new lottery tickets are coming out. The good news is that they’ll have a larger jackpot. The ‘bad’ news (for some) is that they’ll also be harder to duplicate.

According to reports, the design of the new K500 lottery tickets won’t differ too drastically from that of the current K200 ones. That being said, the K500 tickets will contain more security preventions so as to prevent lottery fraud.

“[The new design] is not too different from the current design. However, the paper quality and the security aspects of the K500 lottery ticket will be better,” confirmed U Min Htut, the director of the Internal Revenue Department, reports 7Day Daily.

According to the Internal Revenue Department and the Ministry of Finance’s ‘aung bar lay’ State Lottery Department, the largest jackpot for the K500-ticket lottery will be K1,000,000,000. Yes, that many zeroes.

To compare, the largest jackpot for the K200 lottery is K150,000,000.

As you can imagine, there’s already a lot of buzz surrounding the new lottery tickets (and that big prize). Once they’re actually released, authorities predict a decline in interest in the K200 tickets. As a result, fewer K200 tickets will be printed.

The first of the K1,000,000,000 jackpots will be announced on April 1, 2017, following the end of the 2015-2016 fiscal year.

By our calculations, that gives you roughly four months to go buy out your local lottery vendor’s inventory of K500 tickets. As the kids say — may the odds be ever in your favor.
