Naypyitaw Zoo has some new residents: 9 new Humboldt Penguins, worth more than EU 7500 (about $8,100) each.
The long sought-after penguins, 5 females and 4 males, arrived at their new home in the country’s capital at around 1am on Thursday on a flight from Japan, according to the state-backed Global New Light of Myanmar.
The, er, waddle (seriously, that’s the plural) replace their highly popular but rather unfortunate predecessors, who reportedly all died of fungal disease in 2015.
Since then, the zoo has apparently upgraded its penguin house to prevent problems with temperature or environment. Reminder: Naypyitaw is literally one of the hottest places in Myanmar, an incredibly hot and tropical country.
As we reported earlier this year, a flap in the penguin buying world resulting in the delivery of the latest batch of penguins being delayed.
Good luck to you, dear Humboldts.
