Myanmar’s youngest patient to be infected by COVID-19 is recovering in quarantine after being released from hospital in Chin state.

Identified as patient No. 318, the 6-year-old boy was discharged from Tedim General Hospital earlier this week after two tests came back negative for the coronavirus. He and his mother were among returnees from India to test positive for the virus on July 9. He was admitted to the hospital on July 10.

“Although he was discharged from the hospital, he is now sent to the quarantine unit at the same hospital for another 21 days before returning to his village in Tedim. Besides, his mother’s results are still positive,” nurse Mai Ling told Coconuts Yangon.

At the hospital, he was offered toy trucks and other support from the doctors. When he was discharged, the doctors also gave him a children’s bicycle and Superman backpack as gifts.

Reactions to the news got much attention online, where people applauded the little Superman. When he first came to the hospital, PPE was only available for adults, so the boy was seen grappling with trying to walk in the over-sized gear.

“There you go little boy, cheers!” one Facebook user wrote in response to The Tedim Post.

Many also praised the doctors.

As of now, there are a total 14 COVID-19 patients at the same hospital along with the boy’s mother. To date, Myanmar has logged 346 infections, six of which ended in death.
