A man was arrested in Malaysia on Monday for allegedly raping and robbing a Myanmar woman while impersonating a police officer and threatening her with arrest. He remains in custody as the case is investigated, New Straits Times reported this week.

The man, 22, accosted the woman, 25, near the restaurant where she works in the Air Itam suburb of George Town, Penang. He was wearing a Penang Island City Council jacket, and he told her he was a police officer before demanding her passport.

When the woman failed to produce her passport, the man threatened to arrest her if she did not get on his motorbike. When she got on, fearing arrested, the man took her to an empty room on the 17th floor of a nearby apartment building.

There, he forced his victim to strip and perform oral sex on him. After that, he stole her jewelry.

Fortunately, as they left the room, an off-duty police officer who lives in the building saw them and started questioning them. The woman reportedly screamed and told the police officer what had just happened, and he immediately arrested the alleged rapist.

Local police are now investigating the case and trying to verify if the alleged police impersonator is a city council employee.
