Myanmar will soon have voice-activated elevators: reports

Voice recognition software for elevators has reached Myanmar, according to reports in local media.

Yes, we might not have smooth sidewalks, or fast internet, but we will soon have lifts you can talk to: “Floor seven, please”.

More than 120 countries worldwide already use the technology developed by Greece’s Kleeman Company, according to state-run newspaper the Global New Light of Myanmar.

It’s designed for easy use by wheelchair users and the blind. A floor can be selected by voice commands, and a warning is issued when the elevator arrives.

Clearly, this is high-tech stuff. But what happens when the user isn’t a native English speaker?

Kleeman didn’t respond immediately to request for comment. But we have all the fears.
