Myanmar traffic police recorded 1,324 traffic accidents in June 2017, as well as 355 traffic-related deaths and 2,051 injuries.
This means that last month had a daily average of 44 accidents, 12 deaths, and 68 injuries.
Traffic police attribute the high accident and death rates to drivers refusing to follow traffic rules.
A recent collision between two public buses in Yangon’s Mingaladon Township killed 10 people and left 34 injured. The crash has been blamed on a mechanical malfunction in one of the buses, but others have blamed one of the drivers.
Yangon, Bago, Mandalay and Sagaing regions have the highest traffic accident rates in the country.
Last month, in Yangon alone, 215 traffic accidents were reported, plus 51 deaths and 275 injuries.
