A Myanmar man has been arrested for stabbing his ex-girlfriend, also a Myanmar national, near Tokyo Station in the Japanese capital.
According to Japan Today, both the culprit and victim are students studying in Tokyo. The culprit has been identified as 28-year-old Nyein Chang Aung.
Authorities say that the two first met in June 2012 in Myanmar. Their relationship ended in April of last year.
In January, the victim called police and said that Nyein Chang Aung was waiting for her in front of her house, and that he had also been posting malicious Facebook messages about her current boyfriend. Police issued a warning to Nyein Chang Aung, who at the time agreed to back off.
Today’s attack took place around 6:45am on a street in Tokyo’s Otemachi business district. Nyein Chang Aung allegedly stabbed the woman in the back with a knife. An eyewitness told Japan Today that he saw a woman at the scene “lying limp in a pool of blood.”
Police say that the scene was near a building where Nyein Chang Aung was doing a cleaning job.
The woman fell unconscious, but is believed to have survived the attack. Nyein Chang Aung has admitted to the crime, and is currently in police custody.
