Myanmar President Htin Kyaw visits Vietnam

Myanmar’s President Htin Kyaw is heading to Vietnam for an official visit.

He arrived there this morning, traveling with the First Lady Su Su Lwin.

The trip comes as Foreign Minister and State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi wraps up her own state visit to India for a summit.

Htin Kyaw was nominated for the presidential in Suu Kyi’s stead as the Nobel Laureate remains constitutionally barred from the top job because her children are foreign nationals.

Although viewed somewhat a figurehead, Htin Kyaw has proved enormously popular in Myanmar.

We especially like this photo of him holding a Burmese cat this month around Inle Lake.

For obvious reasons, it was shared widely on the web.
