Myanmar Police Force honors taxi drivers who helped them arrest Ko Ni’s killer

The Myanmar Police Force held a ceremony yesterday in Yangon to honor two taxi drivers who helped them arrest the gunman responsible for killing Ko Ni.

The two men, Kyaw Oo and Ne Win, bravely chased down the culprit immediately after the attack. Ne Win was also shot by the gunman in the process, and sadly lost his life on the way to the hospital.

At the ceremony, which took place at the Yangon International Airport, Kyaw Oo was presented with a MMK2.9 million cash reward for his bravery. The reward was made up of contributions from the No (2) Yangon Region Security Police Administration, the Airport Security Police Force, the chief of the Myanmar Police Force, and an anonymous company. The police force has also offered to pay to repair his taxi, which was damaged during the incident.

Following Ne Win’s death, a group of citizens set up a bank account for donations to give to his family; at least K32 million have been donated by people from across the country.

Ko Ni was shot at close-range at the taxi stand outside Yangon International Airport. Once the shooting occurred, a group of taxi drivers chased down the gunman, foiling his escape and allowing authorities to arrest him on the spot.
