With a history of violent crackdowns and bribe-taking, it’s safe to say that police in Myanmar don’t have the best reputation.
Under the new Suu Kyi government, there are plans to change all that. Starting with the headwear.
An officer at the police headquarters told 7Day that a new uniform is being introduced that will feature soft berets, replacing the hard caps currently in use.
“People think that [the caps] are tough. So we are planning to replace them with berets.”
Win Khaung, the recently retired head of Myanmar’s police force, praised the changes, saying that it would lead to better relations between police and the public.
What’s next – dumping the violent crackdowns? Just a suggestion.
