Myanmar National Airlines flight to Yangon hits pigeons, aborts takeoff

A Myanmar National Airlines flight from Heho to Yangon was taking off on Wednesday afternoon when it hit a group of pigeons, forcing it to halt on the runway before fully leaving the ground.

Luckily, everyone on board was safe and sound.

Photos of the plane and, weirdly, the mangled pigeons, were posted on the airline’s Facebook page.

The birds damaged the left engine and the pilot made the decision to turn back, according to the post.

Reactions on the Facebook page praised the quick thinking, with some taking a moment to say some words for the fallen pigeons.

Myanmar’s aviation sector is no stranger to close scrapes.

Most recently, in March, a Golden Myanmar Airlines flight’s tire burst during takeoff, but no one was injured. A month later, two planes bumped each other on the tarmac at Yangon International Airport.

There were no injuries.
