Two Myanmar Lethwei fighters showed how badass the homegrown boxing style can be when they dominated their foreign competitors in the All Stars Big Fights championship at the Theinpyu Gymnasium on Sunday.
Tun Tun Min and Too Too, ranked the country’s two best Lethwei stars, retained their titles before sell-out crowds, according to state-run newspaper the Global New Light of Myanmar.
The competition pitched champions of the country’s traditional boxing style against their counterparts in Muay Thai and MMA.
Too Too, ranked second in the openweight category, knocked out Canadian Muay Thai champion Matthew Richardson in the fourth-round thanks to some well-targeted belly punches.
Tun Tun Min, ranked first in the openweight category, took out Jackson Alves de Souza, an MMA fighter from Brazil, in the first round with devastatingly powerful kicks.
It was frankly too easy for some – many left the stadium at the start of the round, content that Tun Tun Min had it in the bag, according to the New Light.
“Brazilian Jackson is also a good fighter and he also won his opponents with the use of his powerful kicks,” said U Chit Ko Ko from the Myanmar Boxing Federation. “But, this time, Tun Tun Min is stronger than him.”
