Britain might be breaking up with the European Union, but Myanmar still holds a “special place in the hearts of British people,” the embassy in Yangon has said.
The United Kingdom’s vote on Monday to leave the EU will prompt no change in relations between the two countries – or in Britain’s global standing – representatives said in a statement released after the vote.
The country, which ruled the Southeast Asian nation also known as Burma from 1824 to 1948, will retain positions in the G20, G7, UN and NATO and remain one of the world’s top 10 economies, it claimed.
“Most importantly, we will continue to be a close friend to Burma as it strengthens democracy, civilian government and an open economy. We are one of its greatest development partners, and our businesses and institutions are building significant ties. Burma continues to hold a special place in the hearts of British people.”
That’s alright then.
