Career Foreign Service officer Scot Alan Marciel was on Tuesday unanimously confirmed as ambassador to Myanmar by the Senate, the Associated Press reported.

The vote was 90-0 in his favor.

Back in October, President Barack Obama nominated Marciel to replace Derek Mitchell, who was appointed in 2012 as the US’ first representative to the nation in 22 years.

Marciel, currently secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, has served overseas in Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Turkey and Brazil.
