When the Russian fishing trawler Dalny Vostok sank on Thursday in the Sea of Okhotsk near the remote Kamchatka peninsula in the far east of the country, at least 56 people out of the approximately 123 on board were killed. On the ship were 42 Myanmar nationals, nearly a third of the total crew. Media reports have said they were fishermen. The exact body count is unknown, but the Myanmar embassy in Moscow has published a status for each person in English on its Facebook page, with one confirmed dead (it is written as “die”), 22 “alive” and the rest described as “Not confirm,” presumably meaning missing.
Most of them were in their 20s and early 30s. The one confirmed death is listed as 34-year-old Min Thu Ya.
