Myanmar climbers reach Everest ‘death zone’

Two Myanmar climbers hoping to be the first from that country to summit Mount Everest are nearing their goal.

Win Ko Ko and Pyae Phyoe Aung reached Camp 4 – the freezing plateau at 26,000 feet known as the ‘death zone’ of the world’s highest mountain – at around 12:15pm this afternoon.

A third climber, Nyi Nyi Aung, was yesterday forced to stay at base camp after doctors found problems with his heartbeat.

“Myanmar expedition team is 100% strong to achieve the goal and will release the information on time,” their team wrote a Facebook page, Myanmar Flag on Everest, set up by the Htoo Foundation, which is funding the climb..

Anxiously awaiting the next update…
