Myanmar cigarette packs to carry graphic health warnings

Health warnings and graphic images showing the terrible things smoking does to the human body will soon printed on all cigarette packs in Myanmar.

An order passed yesterday by the Ministry of Health will go into effect September 1, the Global New Light of Myanmar reported.

Unlike many other nations, the country previously had no requirement for packets to carry information on the possible effects of smoking.

But the ministry yesterday announced it had passed the order after Union Minister Dr Than Aung signed off on implementing a 2006 law on controlling smoking.

Better late than never?
