Authorities are searching for a monk who fell off a boat and into the Ayeyarwady River yesterday morning.
The incident took place around 10am near Htee Gyaint Township in the Sagaing Region. According to one official’s account as quoted by Kumudra, the small motorboat was carrying three individuals, including two monks. One monk was behind the wheel, while the other, who has been identified as 59-year-old Sandar Wa Ya, rode in the back. At some point during the trip, a few particularly strong waves crashed into the boat and the monk in the back fell overboard.
The boat belonged to the monastery where the now-missing monk resided.
Officials immediately started searching for the missing individual that morning, although they had yet to locate him as of yesterday evening.
