MMA fighter ‘Burmese Python’ donates K3.5million to Kachin IDPs

Mixed martial artist Aung La N Sang visited Kachin IDP camps on April 2 and donated K3.5 million (US$2,570) to the people staying there. He also donated TVs, mosquito repellent and clothing.

The funds were raised through a charity auction that the fighter held in Yangon on March 31.

The MMA fighter was met with cheers from fans upon his arrival in Myitkyina and later in the IDP camps in Waingmaw Township. The camps are run by the Kachin Baptist Church.

“I feel very glad to return to my native place. I really enjoy coming to Kachin State. I will pray for you tomorrow,” Aung La N Sang told Eleven.

The fighter, known as the ‘Burmese Python’, was honored at Dukahtaung Church and was welcomed by Kachin entertainers at the Manaw sports ground on April 2. His itinerary also includes a visit to a drug rehabilitation center.

“Aung La N Sang has not returned to Myitkyina for more than 14 years. His grandparents and relatives feel very glad to see him in his native place,” said Aung La N Sang’s brother Bauk Htwel Naw.

Aung La N Sang took part in MMA tournaments in Yangon during last year but did not visit Kachin State. He won three ONE Championship tournaments last year but lost the ONE Middleweight World Championship to Russian fighter Vitaly Bigdash in January.

The Burmese Python plans to return to Yangon for another tournament in July.

“It is my goal and dream to be the middle weight World Champion,” says the fighter on his Facebook page.
