Meiktila police found guilty of soliciting bribe from gas station

Two police officers from Meiktila were sued by the anti-corruption commission yesterday over allegations they solicited and took a K200,000 (about $200) bribe from a gas station where a young man was recently electrocuted.

The man died while changing a fluorescent tube at the station, in Hsinsalwal village, the Global New Light of Myanmar reported. Shortly afterwards, two police officers showed up to demand the cash, according to the gas station owner, named as Aung Win.

He sent a letter of complaint to the commission in June 2015.

Following the investigation, two officers were charged under Section 56 and 57 of the anti-graft law.
