The Yangon Police Force posted an update on their Facebook page yesterday regarding a body that was found in Mingaladon on Tuesday, and boy does it sound like something straight out of a television show.

Around 7am on Tuesday morning, Mingaladon police received word of a body that was found on the side of the road. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities discovered that the deceased was a man whose body was gagged with a blue napkin and hands bound with tape; he also had several wounds across his body.

An investigation identified the deceased as 20-year-old Mingaladon resident Lin Lin Tun. After locating his address, police interrogated his neighbors, who revealed that Lin Lin Tun had been in a relationship with his 13-year-old neighbor, to the latter’s father’s disapproval.

Authorities also found out that Lin Lin Tun had gone out to a tea shop around 5pm with two men the day before — one Zin Bo Aung, and one Tin Min Latt. Witnesses state that at 7:50pm, Lin Lin Tun and Tin Min Latt got into a Probox in front of the shop and drove off.

Police then tracked down Zin Bo Aung and Tin Min Latt and took them in for interrogation on Tuesday evening, which was when they confessed everything.

It turns out that the two men, along with the deceased’s girlfriend’s father Myo Zaw Oo, are cousins. Zin Bo Aung and Lin Lin Tun were in the same line of work and had become close friends, which was how Zin Bo Aung discovered that Lin Lin Tun was in a relationship with his niece. Zin Bo Aung relayed the news to his older brother Myo Zaw Oo, who then told Zin Bo Aung to set up a meeting so that he could have a talk with his daughter’s boyfriend.

Lin Lin Tun and Zin Bo Aung met up at the agreed upon tea shop on Monday evening. Myo Zaw Oo and Tin Min Latt then arrived in a Probox, and the former told Lin Lin Tun to get in so that they could go to his aunt’s house in Htauk Kyant to talk about allowing him to marry his daughter.

However, the trio stopped the car on the road where Lin Lin Tun’s body was eventually found, gagged and bound his hands, and hit him with a metal pipe and a knife. Afterwards, they left the body there and drove off.

Zin Bo Aung and Lin Lin Tun are currently in custody and are being charged under Section 302 (“Punishment for murder”) of the Myanmar Penal Code. Police are still on the hunt for Myo Zaw Oo.
